Esteemed British composer Bob Chilcott is in residence with the Tulsa Oratorio Chorus November 19-21, 2015.  In addition to two teaching and youth choir events, Chilcott and TOC will host a “Community Sing” followed by Chilcott conduting his own “St. John’s Passion” on Saturday November 21 at 7:30 PM at First Baptist Church in Tulsa.

Treble Choral Clinic with Bob Chilcott

Two hundred middle school treble singers from Tulsa area middle schools will participate in a choral clinic with Bob Chilcott, rehearsing and performing his “City Songs” – four songs for SS and piano on the theme of cities – Light and Glass, Concrete, Skyscraper, and Streetseller — written with younger voices in mind. Friends and family are encouraged to attend a short performance at the conclusion of the workshop. Teachers are welcome to attend the entire workshop and receive professional development credit.

Experience singing Bob Chilcott’s choral works – “Five Passion Hymns” (from St. John Passion), “Where Riches Is Everlastingly”, and “Thou Knowest, Lord” – under the composer’s direction. This workshop should be of interest to all adult singers, particularly individuals and groups from area church choirs. The registration fee of $10 includes a personal copy of the vocal scores and one ticket to the TOC St. John Passion Concert. Additional tickets for the concert may be purchased at the workshop at a discounted rate of $10 each.

The Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, assisted by players from Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, will perform the Tulsa premier of Bob Chilcott’s “St. John Passion”. Chilcott’s mighty setting of words from the Gospel of St John is a dramatic yet optimistic retelling of the Passiontide story. This major work, premiered in 2013, will be preceded by several shorter works by Chilcott and other composers. Tickets are $20, seniors $15 and students $5 at or (918) 596-7111.
