Tulsa Chorale will host six of the top U.S. women composers in Tulsa March 20-21 for two panel events and a concert, where the composers will conduct the chorus singing several of their own works. The event schedule is as follows:
- Finding Our Voices: An Evening With Six Renowned Composers (panel event), March 20, 7:00 pm at AHHA Tulsa, free and open to the public, in partnership with the Oklahoma Center for Humanities
- Remarkable Women Composers: An Up-Close Encounter (panel event), March 21, 1:00 pm at Tulsa Historical Society and Museum, free and open to the public, in partnership with the Tulsa Historical Society and Museum
- Celebrating Choral Music by Today’s Leading Women Composers, March 21, 7:30 pm at Cascia Hall, tickets available at tulsachorale.org
The composers include Andrea Ramsey (Kansas City, Missouri), Rosephanye Powell (Tuscaloosa, Alabama), Chen Yi (Kansas City, Missouri), Joan Szymko (Portland, Oregon), Jocelyn Hagen (Minneapolis, MN) and Patti Drennan (Norman, Oklahoma). These six top composers have never been together in the same place to discuss and conduct their works.
“We are privileged to perform this music, and even more privileged to get to mingle with the women composers that created these choral pieces,” says Dr. Tim Sharp, Artistic Director for Tulsa Chorale.
